3 Day Canyoneering: Camping

Our 3-day guided canyoneering trips and tours in Arizona will immerse you in the world of wilderness adventure. Tucked away in the remote wilderness of the Sierra Ancha, accessible from either Phoenix or Sedona, is an area where saguaro cactus is only miles from high country pine forest. The area is filled with crystal clear creeks and rivers, an area that blends everything amazing into one of the most pristine diverse areas in the state. The entire region seems alive, and is a miracle of the desert that produces deep pools, natural waterslides, magnificent waterfalls and is mixed with pine forests, cactus, and beautiful multi-colored stone. These trips will bring you into some of the most remote places in Arizona, and into the heart of the canyon experience.

The first day we provide a comprehensive ground school training before dropping into our first technical adventure, involving either Hog and/or Firstwater canyons, both are gems of the remote Ancha. At night we provide camping accommodations and cozy sleeping setups under skies so clear that the Milky Way appears as a cloud in the sky. We cook dinner hot, over the campfire and sometimes with traditional Dutch oven cooking. A hot cooked breakfast, lunches, snacks and drinks are all included, as is all camping supplies set up for you, as well as the technical gear, guides and training for the canyons.

On the second day we provide a 1 hour 4x4 off road interpretive backcountry drive, to the Western edge of the Ancha, where we will take you into the Salome Wilderness. The canyon here is renowned for big sculpted grottos and lots of water. Many sections we will float through narrow granite corridors while watching the desert landscape float by above us. Tonight we will sit by the campfire and celebrate our success.

The third day, we will put our skills from the first two days into practice, descending one of our guides' personal favorites. Imagine floating out into space sixty feet above the ground right next to a beautiful cascading waterfall. This final adventure of the trip also hosts nice narrow slotted sections and huge walls filled with clear pools.

These trips bring couples and families together, allowing you time somewhere beautiful and quiet to reset the mind, while experiencing that healthy feeling that comes from pushing ourselves a little bit and succeeding at a challenge. It seems to empower people giving them a sense of well-being when back at camp, and when you combine the adrenaline during the day with the beauty of the night sky, a cold drink and a campfire, you simply cannot go wrong.

All of our guides are experts in the area, one permanently lives here. All guides are qualified Wilderness First Responders through the Wilderness Medical Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School. We are permitted by the US Forest Service in all of our areas. For these trips, we will meet you on the North side of Roosevelt Lake at the Rocking X Ranch, and directions will be provided upon reservation.

This same trip/itinerary can be run, with overnight cabin accommodations at our nearby, private, 27-acre ranch.
